Jon Dermott is a native of Lamar, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a law degree in 1963. He subsequently practiced law in both Texas and Arkansas before returning to Joplin, Missouri in 1967. Jon practiced law with the firm then known as Blanchard, Van Fleet, Martin, Robertson & Dermott from 1967 through 1994. Jon was elected to the first of two terms as Circuit Judge of Jasper County, Missouri in 1994. He retired from the bench in 2007.
Jon currently serves as Of Counsel to the firm, and represents Missouri Southern State University among other clients. He also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at MSSU.
Jon is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and Jasper County Bar Association, having served as President of the Jasper County Bar in 1980. He is also a member of the American Bar Association. He has long been active with the Kiwanis Club of Joplin, the Joplin Family Y, and the University of Arkansas Alumni Association. He is also a past President of the United Way of Joplin and the Freeman Hospital Board of Directors.
